Enduring Light

★ OUT NOW.

The world's oldest prison is held shut by a newborn's heartbeat. Heaven has given them twenty-four hours to find a better solution.

The battle for Mount Shasta is over. The Fallen Response Unit won, and is still learning what the winning cost. The seal is holding. Barely. The two hundred inside are awake now, and grieving, and some of them are done waiting.

Mathias has spent nine hundred years as the only one of his kind: half angel, half human, all doorman to other people's lives. Ex-Templar. Modern muralist. The team's first line when something ancient comes through a wall. He's held the line at every door in history except his own.

Jade has no powers. No training. No business being on that mountain, except that her sister needs her, and Jade has never once flinched at anything that matters. Not at angels. Not at grief. Not at the four-thousand-year-old prisoners nobody else will sit with, who are slowly learning that the young woman with the coffee is the first kindness they've been shown since the Flood.

Mathias has been looking for someone like him for nine centuries. He's about to learn he was looking for the wrong thing.

Then Heaven's army arrives with an ultimatum, the mountain starts counting down, and in the deepest cell, the one with no name on it, something that has listened through stone for four thousand years finally speaks.
